Bronies For Good

We here at LOEG are proud to announce our latest partner/sponsor: Bronies for Good. BFG is a network of dedicated fans from the MLP community who show a genuine desire to reach out to people and problems that many of the people in this world tend to disregard. That being said, it’s also a support group for any Brony who genuinely shows the desire to reach out and help, a mission that very much correlates with what we do here at LOEG. Through service, dedication and sacrifice, they hope to demonstrate that the brony community is not just an atypical assortment of fans for a children’s TV show, but rather, an altruistic group of people that embody the ideas of love, tolerance and practice those ideas in a meaningful and substantial way.

Bronies for Good’s current project, as a few of you brony/pony fans in our community may know, is known as the Seeds of Kindness. It’s a fundraiser dedicated to raise awareness and money to help fund two major, ongoing projects for the non-profit group of Your Siblings.

The first project, which has since been fully funded as this time of writing, was to help build, supply and operate a clinic in Uganda. The second, ongoing project is the construction of a Green Village in Burundi, where street children who have lost their parents to the civil war can find a secure home that allows refugees to become self-sufficient without resorting to criminal activities. You can learn more about Your Siblings group over at: http://yoursiblings.org/faq

In order to help boost awareness and funds towards the second project, BFG will be teaming up with Everfree Radio: http://everfreeradio.com/ on June 8th for a livestream starting at 10PM CST. Which, then will transition on over to Ponies Live Now: http://ponyslivenow.com/ for a 24 hour gaming marathon.  With that being said, you can find more information about BFG and their current project over at: http://broniesforgood.org/ or alternatively, just click the Seeds of Kindness banner on the right of our site.

July Week-Long Marathon for EveryMan

July: The Final Frontier for Summer Break; known as the last stretch of having fun in the sun before school is back in session. One could say they’ve done it all over their break: parties, booze, ogling at beautiful girls in bikinis/hot, muscular guys at pool/seaside and everything else in between. For others, it was a general day to day routine of a quiet, lazy summer: sleeping in, hanging out with friends, spending time online, etc. However, one thing is for certain, we all strive for the last month to be something that we’ll always remember.

With the community we have, there’s no better way than to sink near endless hours into gaming thanks to all the free time in between with our social life. That being the case, summer break is the perfect opportunity to finally exact our revenge on the games that troll us endlessly such as Super Meat Boy, Binding of Isaac, or Dark Souls. It could even be games that you’ve never beaten as a kid like Final Fantasy Tactics, Metal Gear Solid, or even Yoshi’s Island. With summer vacation coming to an end, we’re gonna go out in style!

The League of Extraordinary Gamers is proud to present our 5th and 2nd summer annual week-long charity marathon for Everyman. And for the first time ever, in spirit of the charity we’ll be gaming for, there’ll be two themes this time around.

As always, PM KitsuneKyon: www.twitch.tv/KitsuneKyon if you wish to cast for the event. And if you’d like to donate prizes, PM Aria www.twitch.tv/Ariablarg

StealthKnights Adventures in; Velvet Assasin Impressions

Brown and orange are the primary colors you will see with occasional all green

Velvet Assassin

Developer: Replay Studios

Publisher: SouthPeak Games

Genre: Stealth

Release: 4/28/09

Platforms: PC, 360

Impressions on: PC

Velvet assassin was a game I wanted back in 2008. In the previews it looked like a promising stealth game. I eventual got it for my birthday next year after forgetting about it for a while. It was the second game in my life that I regret getting. I tried playing the game as a stealth game where you sneak past the enemies which was the wrong way to play By the second level, I rage quit and uninstalled the game. I was frustrated with how linear and how it was about killing everything quietly. 3 year later and I decided to give it another chance and play it how I’m supposed too. It wasn’t so bad when I got into the rhythm of things and I did well. It was not exciting but I endured it hoping it would get better. It never did. The game remained very linear with small rooms and a few guards in each positioned like they had a sign on them saying stab me. The game play was much worse and more boring than games with bad stealth sections.

Stealth is frustrating to do

The third level became even more boring with the lack of music and more obvious guard placements. That was not the worse part however. What made it bad was the last few sections where you had to ether you a crappy disguise that could be seen through in less than 5 seconds. Now you might say I should stay away but with the level design, you can’t put much distance between you and the enemy. I even tried to use objects to block their line of sight but they can see through obstacles and not be fooled by your disguise. So you might think, maybe I had to kill them or kill one of them but with the disguise makes sneaking impossible as you walk with a loud clunk. I tried the part without a disguise and kill everyone. I was able to lure out one guard with my whistle and kill him when he had his back turned but after while it wouldn’t work and he would home in on my hiding spot no matter where I moved making it impossible to do a stealth kill. I became frustrated and decided to uninstall the game.

It was just bad game play and I didn’t want to deal with it in every level. Velvet assassin had a lot of potential with great graphical effects and atmosphere but game play kills it. The story is not even good enough to endure it. I wanted to write a review about it but since I have not beaten it, I can’t fully tell you how bad it is or if it gets worse or better. Basically, stay away from this game no matter how much it looks like it should be given a chance. Sometimes bad games don’t have any redeeming or redeemable enough traits.

StealthKnights Adventures in; Q.U.B.E Demo Impressions

Your not going to buy this game for its looks

Q.U.B.E

Developer/Publisher: Toxic Games

Release: 1/6/12

Genre: First Person, Puzzle, indie

Platform PC

Q.U.B.E is a First Person puzzle based game. You navigate white block environment while manipulating colored blocks to get further in. Left mouse button pulls the block out while right mouse button pushes them back in. The red blocks that act as platforms or doors, blue blocks that when pushed down, will shoot you in the air. Then there is yellow blocks that when pulled in a certain order, will come out in certain lengths. So if you pull out the end yellow block it will come out like a stair case while if you pulled it from the middle, the middle will be the longest and the other two ends be shorter. The puzzles are simple but have a lot of potential to be more complicated latter. The graphics are simple and fine while there is no music  other than empty like sounds that can give an eerie feeling. It’s an interesting game that looks like a portal ripoff at first glance but is different. It seems like it could be a fun game to get at $15 various distribution sites like Steam, Desura, Gamergate, and playism.

AriaBlarg and Friends Go PrimeTime!

Glitz! Glamour! Kappas! It’s everything that you’d wish for in Hollywood, but much better. Starting on August 31st in Seattle, Washington, at the Washington State and Convention Center, one of the gaming community’s biggest conventions will be happening; second only to E3, PAX Prime. PAX Prime, as you may know, is Penny Arcade Expo’s original convention, and its second annual event of the year that everyone can attend, unlike E3 and excluding PAX Dev. It’ll feature some of the gaming industry’s greatest minds and developers, musical acts, critics and fans alike.

The annual event got its start in 2004 in Bellevue, Washington at the Meydenbauer Center by Penny Arcade comic authors Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik. The inspiration in creating this event stemmed from the fact that the pair wanted to attend a show that gave equal attention across the gaming spectrum of console, computer and table top gamers. Thus, PAX itself was born.

It wouldn’t be until 2010 at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts, that PAX East was born. Given the highly successful event of PAX in the previous years, now named PAX Prime to avoid confusion, it made sense to expand the event.

With that said, Prime is typically the bigger event of the two given that gaming developers are more likely to talk about their product(s) since many of the Triple A titles are scheduled for a fall/winter release, as well as debut demos of said product(s) to gauge customer feedback in working the last few months on refining said product(s) as well as hype it.

So what goes on at a PAX event? Citing from the site: “in addition to dedicated tournaments and freeplay areas, we’ve got nerdcore concerts, panel discussions, the weekend-long Omegathon event, and an exhibitor hall filled with booths displaying the latest from top game publishers and developers.” Of course, there’ll be parties, meeting up with friends, enjoying that which is Seattle, ect.

AriaBlarg and Friends, being Angeho, Luigi__91, Tagros, Brett, Raptor Jesus, kashi, Ransom, Lucario, and LOEG creator, KitsuneKyon will be attending PAX Prime 2012. As Ariablarg.tv Staff, we will be dedicated in bringing you, the viewer all around coverage of this event as well as what we encounter in Seattle. If fellow Blargnauts, or TTV members in general are attending, don’t hesitate in meeting up with us. You can find more info about our trip and if you like to help at Ariablarg.tv

StealthKnight’s Adventures in; Vessel Demo Impressions

A dark, atmospheric puzzle platformer

Vessel

Developer: Strange Loop Games

Publisher: IndiePub

Release: 3/1/12

Genre: Puzzle, 2D platformer

Platforms: PC

Buy on Steam or http://www.strangeloopgames.com/

Vessel is a 2D puzzle platformer that I tried out today on Steam. Unlike most games, it does not open up with the menu screen but goes directly to the intro once you select new game. The back story’s told through a series of painting about how your character was a brilliant inventor that created machines made of water. He gets popular but they soon start taking over the world. A wild liquid machine is accidentally produced and locks the protagonist outside of his lab. You need to get back into the lab to stop it.

Use liquid machines to help you solve puzzles

The game controls are simple to learn and easy to control. You never feel like your fighting against the controls. It is annoying though that jumping does not always work while running which prevent you from bunny hopping. It’s not a game breaker though as the game focuses mostly on puzzle solving. The graphics are simple but detailed and fit with the setting of the game. It doesn’t scream flawed or outdated but fits with the somber tone perfectly. Same with the music. The music is simple but give an apocalyptic feeling throughout the game. There is more than one song but its a gradual change when you hear it in a new area rather than completely different. I enjoyed playing it. The puzzles were logical and made sense with how you had to use the living fluid to solve puzzles. I did get stuck at one puzzle which didn’t make sense to me. Since the demo’s made up of parts of the game, what you see maybe different. Overall I think its worth the price of $15 on steam or buy on the official website to get it DRM free and a code to redeem it on steam.

StealthKnight Adventures in; Defence of Ardania Demo Impressons

Defend your castle and invade others

Defenders of Ardania

Developers: Most Wanted Entertainment

Publisher: Paradox Interactive

Release: 3/14/12

Genre: Strategy, Tower Defence

Platform: PC, XBLA, ipad

Reviewed: PC

http://www.defendersofardania.com/buy

Defenders of Ardania demo was a fun experience. I enjoyed it so much that I now want the game. The game is part of the tower deference genre where you have to defend your own base from enemy waves. It has a twist where you are also attacking the enemy base at the same time and so are they. The game is surprisingly easy to learn as the games tutorial’s tell you how to do things. These tutorials are done by your advisory who impersonates Sean Connery. You start with a small area where you can place your towers to defend your base. As you place them your range to place expands to the entire map. Your opponent can also place towers to so you have must be fast and clever to keep the enemy in one linear route. At the end you get a score based on the things you done like taken damage, etc. This allows for some re-playability if you want to compete to get the highest score possible. From the steam description page, the game has 4 player multi-player, a survival mode, and has the option of future DLC. So it looks like it has a lot of last-ability.

A fun and easy to learn game

Graphically the game is bright and vibrant in colors. They’re detailed and fit the theme of a medieval fantasy era. There are no real graphical flaws minus the occasional less detailed rock. There seems to only be one song that has an epic fantasy feel but is relaxing at the same time. The best way to describe this feeling is that it’s not to loud but just right. Overall I had a good time playing it and felt an enjoyment I haven’t felt for a while. The game is $15 on steam and is worth the price imo.

StealthKnights Adventures in; Scoregasam Demo Impressions

Shoot to survive

Scoregasm

Developer: RC Knight

Publisher: Charlie’s Games

Release: 2/8/12

Platform: PC

Genre: Arcade, Shoot-em up, Indie

DRM free on offical website

http://www.scoregasm-game.com/

It can get hard and chaotic

Scoregasm is a top down arcade shoot-em up where you fight in arena’s and fight the wave of enemies to get a high score. It’s a simple, easy to learn, and master shooter. You use your mouse to guide your shots and do a proximity based attack. You guide the ship using the WASD keys. Each level’s called a wave where you’re put in a small arena to destroy all enemies. Once you destroy all enemies, you may unlock exits which lead to different difficulties of waves. Basically its multiple paths done in a star fox 64 style. I played through most of the insane difficulty paths and didn’t find them to difficult though they may get a lot harder later. As you play through the game, you will her a female voice orgasm by going “oooohhh” when you’re doing well. You can turn this off in the options menu under voice. This does not turn off the robot announcer though. The graphics are simple yet shiny with the backgrounds have psychedelic colors in a trance like state. The music is fast based trance style that matches the rhythm of the game. There is plenty of replay value by trying to get the highest score in levels and challenge mode to get the highest ranks. I loved it and want to get it one day. It can buy it on steam for $10 or $10 on the official website DRM free. You can also get the official soundtrack and their other games together for $20
